THE BIG PARTY
The Big Party returns once again, the official after party to the Sharp’s Brewery Big Swim. This year the line-up is as strong as ever with some familiar faces and some fresh acts set to grace the stage (sponsored by John Bray Cornish Holidays) and as per usual Sharp’s will keep the award winning ale flowing!
What better way is there than to spend an afternoon sipping on fantastic Cornish Ale brewed a few miles up the coast, one of Cornwall’s iconic harbour views and some splendid live music. Why not top the day off by entering the swim beforehand?
Music starts at 2pm with Georgie and Steve and then breaks for the swim until 5pm. Come earlier to applaud the swimmers into the harbour, if you’re not brave enough to swim yourself!
Local boy Jamie, born and raised in the village, has been singing in bands for 18 years in and around Cornwall. Now he takes to the stage as a solo acoustic act featuring covers from Stereophonics, The Killers and Busted! With an eclectic but mainly cheesy taste in music you can expect a happy and uplifting set.
Waxx are from Cornwall.
Lee Pixie Matthews on Bass/Guitar Lead Vocals.
Bubs Taylor on Drums/Lead Vocals.
WAXX are an Indie Grunge Duo with a twist of dance and chants. If Death From Above 1979 met LCD Soundsystem for some funky time they would probably create WAXX.
The Fisherman’s Friends are shanty singers from the village who have delighted visitors and locals here for more than 15 years. They’ve known each other since childhood and learnt their powerful brand of Cornish harmony singing at the local Methodist chapel – now the pottery of Fisherman’s Friend Billy Hawkins (baritone), where the group get together with a crate of ale and a good deal of bonhomie to rehearse their repertoire and try out new songs.
Hailing from the South West, on the banks of the River Tamar, Freshly Squeezed are an 8-piece funk fuelled barnstorming behemoth. Always guaranteed to fill dancefloors and whip up a frenzy whenever they take to the stage. For years they have built up a reputation for outstanding musicianship, infectious and irrepressible energetic performances and armed with an MC, horn section, smooth vocals and a solid rhythm section, they’ve been smashing clubs and festivals all over this corner of the UK!
